So the time has come to step up the nutritional game. Your motives may vary from the next person, but our guess is you are wanting to do one or more of the following:
- Lose weight
- Tone up
- Improve performance
- Improve health
- Improve energy
- Set a good example for those important to you (kids anyone?)
- All of the above (I just threw that in because I prefer ending on lucky number 7)
The first step is a simple one and one you can START RIGHT NOW. In fact, it will likely be the easiest step of the whole journey.
Are you ready for it???
Step 1: CONTINUE DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING. No really, this is the first step in dialing in your nutrition and is one we use with all of our clients looking to make changes.
Here is the catch, you have to write down EVERYTHING you eat and drink, and log the time of day that you do it. This includes the AMOUNT you are consuming – estimates are fine to begin with. Remember, continue eating exactly like you were before!
Do this for 7 days, starting today. Record everything, no getting lazy – there are a ton of great apps out there with huge food libraries to make your recording, and estimating, quick and easy.
Why is this the first step? It is impossible to know what changes need to be made, or where the problems lie, if you do not have a solid idea of where you are at currently. You may be amazed at just how much you are consuming…I certainly was when I first decided to get serious about nutrition.
