BPC and UCA – Taking Cheer to the Next Level

It is true. We (BPC) just signed a contract for the summer with the Universal Cheerleaders Association. We will be bringing our elite style sport performance training to a few of their more “invite only” cheer camps. This partnership has been in the works since the success of the cheer specific performance camps we did last summer.  We knew cheerleading was an untapped market in the sport performance industry. We also have the advantage of having a vast knowledge of the sport, even having never competed in it ourselves. How you ask? In the words of Rosetta Stone, IMMERSION. Both Bryant and I have been treading water in the sea of cheerleading for over 10 years now. Both of our better halves were competitive cheerleaders for the better part of their lifetimes. We have had the opportunity to observe the sport and its growth and have witnessed a lot of changes. Both good and not so good.

Varsity Brands, Inc. (owner of UCA) spends countless resources on their number one priority…SAFETY. With proper training, teams can increase their physical readiness, athletic performance, and overall fitness. In turn, we can decrease the rate of non-contact injuries within the sport by leaps and bounds. Studies have shown that a proper training program that consists of simple stability exercises coupled with proper jumping, landing, running, and change of direction mechanics can reduce an athlete’s risk of injury by 65%. In females, this rate can reach 80%.

We will also be talking with the coaches and trying to educate them on the ideals of periodization and balancing training volume, intensity, and the all important rest and recovery. Training smarter and not necessarily harder will allow the coaches to better manage their team’s performance levels at different times within the season and insure their athletes are not flirting with that fine line of overtraining. Thus, keeping their athletes on the mat and off the injured list.

The intention of this summer is to perfect and adapt the programming for different camp situations with all intentions of taking the two companies specialties and making them one cohesive camp experience. If you are interested in having a camp that incorporates BPC’s performance training, contact us or give your Varsity Brands rep a shout. Stay tuned for more updates and check our calendar for the camps that are already locked in!
